The Waterproofing Company (TWC) was incorporated in New York City in 1905. At that time, TWC was the only waterproofing company in the United States, hence the rather generic name. TWC grew around their patent for Cow Bay Cement, a cementitious waterproofing material troweled onto the interior face of concrete foundations that was so effective it launched the modern waterproofing industry.

In the 1920s TWC expanded with an office in Boston. When the depression hit, Boston fared better than the New York office, which eventually closed. TWC has been based in Boston ever since.

TWC created the industry and has led its evolution for more than 100 years. Their craftsmanship is renowned across the architectural spectrum, from traditional masonry repair and restoration tothe application of the most advanced composite membrane systems.

Phoenix Bay State Construction was established in Boston in 1974 by Bob Asmar and Bill Whall. From day-one, quality workmanship, on-time project delivery, and unmatched expertise in all aspects of masonry construction has been the company’s hallmark.

The team’s “passion” for all things stone, and 50 years of experience in new building construction and the restoration of historic buildings and non-historic buildings made Phoenix one of the largest and most trusted masonry trades contractors serving New England. Phoenix master craftsmen are respected for their work with natural stone, cast stone, brick, block and terra cotta. Their project management and estimating teams work closely with architects, building owners and general contractors to inform their design and advise on the most effective masonry construction program for their projects.

Following a strategic merger in 2023, these two companies became TWC Phoenix, offering an integrated portfolio of waterproofing, masonry construction, and restoration services. TWC Phoenix is a division of Greenwood Enterprises, a privately held company that’s consistently ranked one of the Top 10 commercial roofing and building envelope systems contractors in the United States.
